Rosemarie Schneider to receive “Golden Mask for Make-Up Artists’ Award“ for 2010
This was the reason quoted by the jury panel when announcing her name as that of the winner for 2010. The award ceremony shall be held in the margins of BEAUTY INTERNATIONAL in Düsseldorf at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday, 27 March 2010.
Rosemarie Schneider, a sculptress by training, has worked in a number of countries as a make-up artist and in the creative arts. Her special interest lies with concepts for printing, films, photo, and theatre. Her experimental make-ups are on display in exhibitions such as “Twelve faces of a woman”, run by Hamburg’s University of Applied Science. Over and above, Schneider also provides make-up styling for fashion shows and opera performances.
She originally trained as a make-up artist at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Later, in the 80s, she started working for fashion magazines because she there found the creative atmosphere she had missed while working for the theatre. More and more she turned her work into an art. But what is the real background to the make-up artist trade? This question has kept Ms. Schneider busy for the past ten years.
She insists that people wishing to train as make-up artists should study the individual expression of human faces as created with the help of make up. She has unbendingly pursued her objective of providing a “face” to her trade. So she founded the Beautyful Company in Munich. The latter is not just a training facility, but a place to study creative design, an experimental laboratory of budding make-up artists finding their way in make-up work and photography. She also drew up a teaching concept for this type of training. Now she took her fight for certifying make-up artists as a recognised trade to the Bavarian Ministry of Culture.
Ms. Schneider stresses that her work overlaps only marginally with what is designed beauty in a commercial sense. Rather, as an artist and somebody training other people, she wants to work on a concept of beauty. She is still spitting feathers when referring to the fact that make-up artists rank rather low on the recognition scale and they have not yet been granted the coveted recognised trade status. However, she works very hard to meet this ambitious target of hers.
Since 2006 the Berlin-based KRYOLAN PROFESSIONAL MAKE-UP company and Messe Düsseldorf GmbH have jointly bestowed the “Golden Mask for Make-Up Artist’s” Award on a make-up artist for creative efforts and the resulting boost to the professional image of this trade.
